Description

Discussion-Worthy Readings in Child Developmental Psychology expands the readers’ understanding of various perspectives in child psychology on topics that are controversial, cutting-edge, and deserving of critical examination.

The readings are organized into three distinct sections that explore different developmental processes. Part One addresses biological processes, including teratogens, birth, breastfeeding, and early experiences. Part Two examines cognitive and emotional processes including language, emotions, and temperament. Part Three is devoted to relational processes such as gender, parenting, and play.

Topics include an analysis of issues surrounding breastfeeding, using baby sign language, children’s gender identity, the developmental impact of growing up in an orphanage and effective ways to discuss death with children.

The book includes questions and assignments designed to move a course beyond the lecture format to active engagement in discussion, critical thinking, and responsive analysis.
