Rick Doblin, PhD is most commonly known as the founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). He wrote his dissertation on the regulation of the medical uses of psychedelics and marijuana and his Master’s thesis on the use of marijuana and oral THC in nausea control for cancer patients. Doblin then went on to found MAPS in 1986, with the objective of researching medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and marijuana. MAPS is currently conducting several trials. These include studying MDMA-assisted psychotherapies for psychological and emotional damage caused by sexual assault, war, violent crime, and other traumas; MDMA-assisted therapy for autistic adults with social anxiety; and marijuana for symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder in veterans of war.
