She earned her a Masters in Somatic Psychology through Naropa University and her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Fielding Graduate University. She works with the Maiberger Institute offering therapist trainings in EMDR Therapy and Somatic psychology. She offers informational mental health and wellness updates through her heartfelt presentations, social media presence, and blog. She is the author of “The Complex PTSD Workbook: A Mind-Body Approach to Regaining Emotional Control and Becoming Whole.”and the co-author of “EMDR Therapy and Somatic Psychology: Interventions to Enhance Embodiment in Trauma Treatment”
Arielle is the developer of Resilience Informed Therapy, a strength-based, treatment model that includes EMDR Therapy, Somatic Psychology, and Relational Psychotherapy. She trained in EMDR Therapy in 2001 and is an EMDRIA Certified Consultant. Arielle has been the Program Advisor, and a trainer with The Maiberger Institute since 2008.
In 1996 Arielle pursued her M.A. in Somatic Psychology (body-centered psychotherapy) at Naropa University. This same year she became a Certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor. Her passion for somatic psychology recognizes that reason alone is seldom sufficient to help clients move through traumatic or difficult life events. We must include the body in the process of healing.
It was during Arielle’s time at Naropa’s somatic psychology program that she first met Barb Maiberger, MA. Arielle trained in EMDR Therapy shortly thereafter, in 2001. By 2000 Barb and Arielle began teaching courses in Somatic Psychology at Naropa University, and they have continued teach together through the Maiberger Institute offering courses in EMDR Therapy Tools with Somatic Interventions, EMDR Therapy Tools for Attachment Trauma, and EMDR Therapy Tools for Chronic Pain and Illness.
Arielle discovered EMDR Therapy when healing from a car accident. She quickly discovered the profound power of this modality and has built her practice around EMDR Therapy for the past 15 years. In 2002, Arielle pursued her doctorate in clinical psychology and focused her dissertation work on the beliefs and practices of psychologists regarding the integration of mind-body therapies (including Somatic Psychology and EMDR Therapy) in psychotherapy. Her clinical emphasis empowers her clients through building tolerance for difficult emotions with support, helping clients trust in their own innate health, and encourages clients to take an active role in their health and wellness.
Arielle has a passion for teaching, consulting, and presenting. She runs consultation groups and provides individual supervision/consultation for clinicians working towards Colorado licensure or EMDRIA Certification, or EMDRIA Certified Consultant. She believes that one of the key factors to success as a clinician is the confidence and wisdom that comes from a foundation of self-awareness. Working with clients can bring up our own history and feelings. Consultation and Supervision provide a powerful forum to develop insight into personal blind-spots resulting in an enhanced therapeutic presence.
Arielle has presented at national conferences, and offers a wide range of Advanced EMDR Therapy trainings through the Maiberger Institute. Dr. Schwartz offers additional trainings and presentations for the community on topics of Resilience Strategies for Grief and Loss, Play Therapy and EMDR Therapy for Children, and Treating Complex Trauma with EMDR Therapy. She believes in giving back to her community and does so by volunteering for the Boulder Institute of Psychotherapy and Research/InReach and serving on the board for the Grief Support Network, a community nonprofit profiting bereavement services.
