Advanced Romance: How Evolution, Revolution and Technology Have Changed the Laws of Love
$17.09
Description
In part, due to the experiments of the 1960s, divorce rates skied to around 50%–much higher than previously. Is there something to salvage from the bold love experiments of the `60s? “Advanced Romance” does a heck of salvaging job.
It’s a matter of looking at romantic love much more objectively. It’s a matter of applying courageous freethinking to expose fundamentalisms that are camouflaged by the wondrous passions of romance.
That is, romantic fundamentalism camouflages freethinking about love. Love is a subject so exquisitely tender that it usually requires poetic reverence to even approach. “Advanced Romance” analyzes these fundamentalisms, but before it starts insists: A life-long monogamy could be as good as love gets. Whether it be heterosexual or LGBTQ+. If you have such a monogamy, read no further. It’s not worth risking what you’ve got. If not, check out these fundamentalisms:
- The fundamentalism that evolution’s sex imperatives apply only to animals, but that human love is mostly a spiritual event. Humans are subject to gigantic evolutionary sex pressures as proven by the lust, love and attachment chemicals found by Dr. Helen Fisher. Evolution is trying tirelessly to find you a mate. Good news!
- The fundamentalism that romantic love is highly personal. Of course it is. What could be more intimately personal? But if evolution greatly influences human romance, then romantic love is also highly impersonal.
- The fundamentalism that God or the universe has created one person with whom to mate. This is an obvious myth, but people don’t act that way. If you don’t let the one-and-only romantic fundamentalism get in the way, there are probably many other wonderful loves waiting for you.
- The fundamentalism that your relationship is a failure if it doesn’t last forever. Or, the only healthy and romantically acceptable relationship is one that lasts forever. If we continue to accept this view most of the population will have to consider themselves failures who are unfit for love. Don’t.
To explore a revelatory in-depth analysis of the above fundamentalisms, and to find out more fundamentalisms, read “Advanced Romance.”
