Military Transition Advice from a Senior Mentor of Service Members who happened to have his life crushed when he tried to become a “Civilian.” The Military will show you a thousand successful ways to stay in but little to none on how to transition out successfully. Don’t rely on your military leadership chain to show you how to transition out, they’ve usually never done that before. Military Transition is not easy for the transitioning Service Member, their families, or the potential employer. My LinkedIn inbox is flooded daily with my fellow Warriors and their family members asking for transition advice. Some of them are within 30-90 days of their “out” date and are really stressed about how they are going to make it on the “outside.” As a former leader of many Soldiers, my heart goes out to them because I know what is about to happen to their lives. Some of them didn’t even know they were leaving the military in 60 days. In writing this advice, it is not to represent my current employer or former employers, does not support or endorse any institution or accreditation. It is simply a collection of the thoughts and ideas I have shared with countless transitioning US Military Service Members and their family members over the last few years as they have come to me for advice and assistance.
