Description

I’M NOT A POET, is a collection of about a third of the poetry I’ve written since joining the Army, while deployed to Iraq, and since returning home. The poems included in this book depict the many emotions I personally felt at any given moment. Often times I never even knew how I felt rather I wrote what came to mind. After reading a lot of the poems I had a sense of an emotional weight being lifted from me. No soldier or Veteran ever knows the right answer, because there isn’t one, to how and best cope with personal struggles they may be suffering from due to experiences they may have endured while being deployed. Whether writing poetry, short stories, comics, essays, songs, painting, drawing, singing, or speaking – the important thing is to realize that whatever avenue we choose to express ourselves in….is okay. The worst thing that can happen is feeling better.
