In 1960, while trying to be a good husband and father and building a business, Malachy Walsh was diagnosed as suffering from incurable endogenous depression. For 25 years he had recourse to a range of treatments including strenuous exercise, religious devotion and psychiatric sessions. He was eventually cured by acupuncture.
