Description
This book is not for the faint at heart, nor for the ordinary reader. It serves a purpose for those in the field of social work, police work, psychology and certainly for women’s shelters and departments of Child & Family Services. I came to an unexpected point in my life when I found the love of a very sweet man, which caused memories to come back and haunt me. In order to let go and move forward, I felt I had to face them. I began writing, told my story and am free of the demons, the shame and the flashbacks. We need to recognize that women and children are still harmed behind closed doors and therefore, be vigilant in our work to rescue and protect them. Moreover, we need to guard against the erosion of laws enacted to protect children and women from their abusers. Societal views must place the blame where it belongs, on the perpetrator of abuse, who seeks power and control over its victims.
