The story begins in Scotland when Kirsty makes a discovery about her past. Her origins are not what she grew up believeing, the information is contained in a letter from her deceased aunt . The disclosure together with a small legacy gives her the ourage to leave an unhappy marriage and cross the Irish sea in search of the truth. She settles in a small viallage in County Kerry where she is befriended by Mattie Devlin and Sister Mary Ceceilia, both of whom become key figures in aiding her quest. Kirsty is a romantic at heart and longs for everything to be perfect. A new romance with Sam leads her to hold optimism for future happiness.

In part 2 Ladylorn, the idyll appears complete until an unexpected event overwhelms Kirsty and Sam. In the aftermath she becomes deeply depressed. Her biological heritage and all its ramifications return to haunt her waking hours. She feels powerless. those dear to her are at a loss how to help ease her pain. Only one person can still make her smile, Mattie Devlin. She joins several groups and connects with other adoptees, finding some solace in the sharing of background stories. Two women who grew up in different circumstances and countries become friends united in their belief truth matters. Tis truth is reinforced throughought this fictional narrative. It should not be consigned to the past when the consequences live on in them and their children. Some things will not go away.

Forlorn is the third book in the trilogy. Mattie and Eileen unite forces in a fight for justice and redress. By reading and following the outcomes for two young women insight can be gained into the psychological repercussions remaining from the decades in Irish history where the abuse of human rights was deemed acceptable.

In this a form of resolution is finally reached. It can never be complete, but can arrive at a place of acceptance.
