Ruth McLoy was born August 11, 1943, in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, to Raymond and Lulabelle Burns. She met Jesse Richard McLoy Jr. in 1959, whom she married June 29, 1963. In the early years of their marriage, both were employed by Douglas Aircraft Co. in Santa Monica.

Both Ruth and Jesse accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savior early in their lives. Rededicating their lives to the Lord after the miscarriage of their first child, which began a walk of faith with the Lord that grew stronger throughout their marriage. Together, they ministered to youth, adult Bible studies, and in leadership wherever God planted them in Jesse’s career as an aerospace engineer in the missile defense system.

Ruth pursued spiritual growth in practical biblical education through Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), leadership seminars under Tommy Barnett and Jack Hayford ministries, being involved in leadership of Women Alive Ministries, teaching Ladies Bible Studies, organizing and speaking at retreats, and most importantly, from their pastors over the years. In nearly every church, Ruth and Jesse were blessed to support their pastors with spiritual gifts of administration and leadership.

In the first eight years of their marriage, God miraculously delivered each of their three sons, as well as Ruth, from death’s door: Ronald with an extreme allergic reaction to bee sting, Anthony dying from SIDS, Patrick suffering twenty-two cases of pneumonia in his first four years, and Ruth’s hemorrhaging after giving birth to Anthony. God is a miracle-working, loving God!

While acquainted with the pain of loss of parents and many relatives, the loss of Ruth’s sweetheart of fifty-two and half years of marriage was exponentially more painful. But God met her with such a personal love that joy resonated deep within her spirit as she threw herself into His provision of healing. That very transparent and real journey is within this book. Her prayer is that each reader of this journey of Joy in the Mourning will come away with a golden nugget of God’s truth branded on his/her heart for eternal healing.
