Description
Challenges the Brain Disease Model of Addiction in favor of a thinking disorder which is treatable. Offers an alternate explanation to the genetic/biological disease to a thinking disorder caused by the neural dysregulation from early traumas which activate the fight or flight syndrome in the case of physical threats or learned helplessness from caregivers or other significant persons who are apathetic, exhibit their own comorbid disorders: anxiety, depressed, have PTSD, personality disorders are violent, physically or sexually abusive, impoverished, bullied etc. This does not suggest all of this is done by parents as many traumas are perpetrated when children are out of their parents purview. Argues that maladaptive behavior is meaningful to the person exhibiting it despite the others find it counterintuitive.
