He founded the discipline of sociology and the doctrine of positivism. Francis Sidney Marvin was born in 1863, in London, England, son of Francis Bentham Marvin and his wife Julia Chase. He wrote several notable works, including The leadership of the world (1914), Progress and History (1924) and The Evolution of World-Peace (1933). Marvin instigated great improvement in the teaching methods of his subject and did much to promote the philosophy of including scientific development in the presentation of history.
