Description

The author tells of his own experience of despair, with examples of others; its purpose to help those who do not know which way to turn, indicating other doors that can open, leading to new life experiences. The prospect of being without a job can be spine chilling. A man out of work is degraded. Is he a failure. an empty shell; a nothing, a nobody? No, this story tells how a nobody can become a somebody. The failure of my engineering business and the consequent repossession of my house during the earlier recession of the eighties made the future look very bleak indeed. An end to life is an option, but is irresponsible, and it would end all other options. What would be left behind? Life past can be ended without ending life. Discard life past and start a new and different life. Lose the hang ups and inhibitions of the old discarded life. Can any good come from the loss of a job or business, not to mention the repossession of the house and other equity The story tells of opportunities and life changes that became almost an adventure (in retrospect) into a new, different and world. Anything is possible by ending ones previous life; starting a new and exciting one, loosing the inhibitions of the old life. This story starts with a simple occurrence that happens to thousands; namely redundancy. From then on there were a succession of new doors opening and closing; some good and some bad. It was after many years that the all-time low of repossession occurred, but it was overcome. The emphasis is mainly on the silent “middle class,” who in general do not take part in riots and demonstrations, or have the backing of a Trade Union, or indeed the media. They just have to get on with it. Part 1 details the author’s rise and fall. To hear that someone has become redundant and his house repossessed is only half the story. What was he before? The author spent the majority of his working life in senior middle management. What does that mean? The introduction to Part 2 illustrates each situation is different. This is the story of my particular situation; but, hopefully, is relevant to similar situations. It is inevitable that due to the time span it has not been possible to obtain permission to mention the many names associated with my story; names have therefore been changed, including my own.
