How do you explain when others are able to achieve the goals you wish to accomplish with fewer opportunities than you have now? Are you being held back by circumstances relating to money, family, education, work, etc., and want to move forward with your life? As for me, the answer was yes and still is. I was just a 14 year old boy from the South Bronx that was homeless with no family to help, but still wanted to escape poverty. Throughout life I have learned a lot of very important lessons that have helped me develop the mindset I have today. When you compare yourself to those you consider successful, the greatest difference you will notice is their mindset. It is the only thing that separates you from becoming as successful as any of your idols. Nothing Else Matters – Nothing. Having been able to “get up out the hood,” I now want to do everything in my power to help others overcome their own restrictive environments, regardless of whether it is within a project neighborhood or a white picket fence. You’ll notice that the style of this book is non-traditional because I myself am very non-traditional. I grew up listening to a lot of rap and hip hop, so I occasionally ask the reader to identify a set of lyrics that I believe relate to the lesson I am covering. Also, we now live in what is referred to as the “Information Age” so I decided to include those sources of inspiration that I have found while surfing the Internet. I refer to these as Video Breaks, and I still view them on a weekly basis or whenever I need inspiration. My Target Audience – Anyone who is struggling with life circumstances and doesn’t mind taking advice from an expert, and I’m not referring to myself, but those of whom I was able to learn from. Finally, this is not a long book. I wanted to get my ideas across as quickly as possible without eliminating any of the key concepts. With that in mind, I hope you take your time when reading each chapter to allow the concepts to settle in, instead of trying to complete the entire book in one day. My goal is not to provide a “get rich quick” scheme but rather help you shift your mindset into one that is ever adapting to any obstacle. I wish you luck in your journey and hope that you too can spread the word.
